When I began applying to colleges, I originally planned on going as far away from Mississippi as possible. Once I weighed in all of the drawbacks of leaving my primary support system behind, I decided that I would rather stay in Mississippi. Weeks before registration, I had all but decided to attend Mississippi College majoring in Biological Sciences with a Pre-Medical concentration. As registration day grew nearer, my decision settled less and less well with me. The more I contemplated it, I did not want to go to a small college. Both of my parents attended MSU so growing up, I was surrounded by memorabilia of their days here. The stories of nights spent making lifelong relationships were something I wanted to one day possess. I had spent enough time on campus that I already knew my way around, and I realized that I would miss the hot days spent at Dudy Noble, the deafening drone of cowbells in Davis Wade, and the camaraderie found throughout campus when the tailgaters are out in full force. I also wanted that sense of purpose that could be found through any of the numerous clubs and involvement groups associated with Mississippi State University. At MSU I could pursue a a degree in Biomedical Engineering, allowing me to pursue a degree in medicine, while still giving me job security in a field that interested me. As I grew more weary of my initial decision, things started to fall into place. A good friend of mine, eventually my freshman year roommate, had committed to coming to Mississippi State and his potential roommate fell through. At this point, coming to MSU may not have been the only thing that made sense, but it was the only thing that felt right. After my first year and a half on campus, I can say with confidence that I have made the best possible decision for my future.
