Through my college selection process, it was almost understood that I would come to Mississippi State. With my dad being alumni, going to football games, and having a quick answer to the scary, “What are you doing after graduation” question, it just felt right. However, my senior year, I started to worry because all this time I was imagining my dad’s experience here and not my own. Even when people constantly told me I would thrive, I was unsure what that really looked like for me. Then, through visiting Starkville with older girls, it all started to click why this was the right place for me to call home. I was in disbelief with how genuinely kind each person that I met here truly was. I would always joke with my friends that Starkville was our little snow globe and once you hit Westpoint you were entering the globe and finally back. Now needless to say, I made Mississippi State my own experience and made my own memories to take ownership of this place in a way I could've never imagined in high school. I feel like this might be just the thing a student needs to hear when they feel like they have to go far to great things. Sometimes the greatest things are closer than you think!
